SynaptiX LID – Floodplain Harvesting

Smart floodplain harvesting management solutions for NSW landholders

Stay compliant, improve efficiency and manage water resources with real-time floodplain monitoring, automated reporting and local support.

SynaptiX LID is locally designed, manufactured and supported right here in NSW. Developed specifically to meet the requirements of floodplain harvesting measurement and NSW regulators, SynaptiX LID helps landholders stay compliant with the NSW Floodplain Harvesting Measurement Policy.

Why landholders need a floodplain harvesting measurement system

Floodplain harvesting refers to the collection of water from floodplains during rainfall events. Under the NSW Floodplain Harvesting Measurement Policy 2020, landholders who receive a floodplain harvesting access licence are legally required to measure water taken from the floodplain. This means:

  • You must have an approved storage measurement system installed and certified by a Duly Qualified Person (DQP) before any floodplain water can be taken.
  • You have 12 months from the commencement of your water sharing plan to install primary metering equipment.
  • If you wish to harvest floodplain water during this period, you must install at least a secondary metering device, such as a validated gauge board or electronic storage measurement system.

SynaptiX LID ensures you meet these legal obligations with confidence.

The Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) maintains a list of approved storage measurement hardware and DQPs, available on their website. https://www.industry.nsw.gov.au/water/licensing-trade/floodplain-harvesting

Novecom’s role in floodplain harvesting compliance

Novecom has been an active participant in the development of approved storage measurement systems. We’ve worked closely with DPE, WaterNSW and NRAR to develop a compliant Local Intelligence Device (LID) for both primary and secondary measurement systems.

Our SynaptiX LID is:

  • Approved for use in NSW
  • Designed and manufactured locally
  • Supported by a NSW-based team
  • Compatible with approved SDI-12 storage meters
  • Plug-and-play, solar-powered, and pre-configured- ready to connect and activate onsite with minimal setup

When paired with an approved storage meter, SynaptiX LID forms a complete measurement and reporting system. It must be installed by a DQP and registered with the DPE.

Trusted by landholders and Duly Qualified Installers across NSW

Primary measurement – Transmission of data to DPE

The Primary Synaptix LID (Local Intelligence Device) enables direct transmission of data to the NSW DPE and has been assessed and listed by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) as meeting the specifications of the NSW Floodplain Harvesting Measurement Policy.

  • Telemetry via Water NSW SIM to the DPE Data Acquisition Service (DAS)
  • Data available within 24 hours
  • Interfaces with approved SDI-12 storage meters

Secondary measurement – User access to data

The Secondary Synaptix LID (Local Intelligence Device) enables the user to download and manage their own data and has been assessed and listed by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) as meeting the specifications of a secondary measurement LID for the NSW Floodplain Harvesting Measurement Policy.

  • 24/7 remote monitoring via SynaptiX Asset Management System (SAMS)
  • Compatible with SDI-12 storage meters
  • Ideal for internal water management and operational oversight

All units are supplied as sealed, maintenance-free systems with integrated solar panels and battery power. Mounting frames included for fast setup in remote floodplain locations.

We'll supply your complete measurement system

Landholders who receive a floodplain harvesting access licence must measure water taken from the floodplain, as required by the Floodplain Harvesting Measurement Policy 2020.

What this means is landholders must have an approved storage measurement system installed and certified by a Duly Qualified Person (DQP) before any floodplain water can be taken. Landholders have 12 months from the commencement of their water sharing plan to install primary metering equipment.

If landholders wish to floodplain harvest during this time, they will need to install, as a minimum, a secondary metering device, such as an approved and validated gauge board or electronic storage measurement system.

The Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) has gazetted a list of approved storage measurement hardware, and this is available on their website. Additionally, there is a listing of DQP’s who can be engaged to undertake installation and validation of storage measurement systems.

Novecom Pty Ltd (Novecom) has been an active participant in the development of approved storage measurement systems and worked through the process with DPE, Water NSW and NRAR to develop an approved local intelligence device (LID) for both primary and secondary measurement systems.

Novecom’s SynpatiX LID is locally designed, manufactured, and supported right here in NSW. The SynpatiX LID has been developed to address the specific requirements of floodplain harvesting measurement and the regulators.

The SynaptiX LID when paired with an approved storage meter provides the complete measurement and reporting system. The system must be installed by a DQP and registered with the DPE.
